Matching expansion rates

Every colored borosilicate rod has its own coefficient of expansion — the rate at which it grows and shrinks with temperature. Combining colors means combining materials that move at different speeds through every heating and cooling cycle, including the slow one in the annealing kiln.

UV-reactive rod compounds this. Its trace-element content gives it its own thermal behavior, distinct from standard color of the same shade. Putting UV green next to UV blue in one piece means managing three variables at once, and a mismatch shows up as a stress crack days later rather than immediately.

Two pieces in one

In daylight this reads as ordinary colored glass. Under blacklight it is a different object entirely.
