How to Choose a Grinder
A good grind means a more even burn and less waste. Here's what to look for.
2-Piece vs. 3-Piece vs. 4-Piece
2-piece is simple and compact. 3-piece adds a collection chamber. 4-piece adds a fine screen and a kief catcher below it.
What's a Kief Catcher?
The bottom chamber of a 4-piece grinder collects kief — the loose trichome dust that falls through the screen as you grind. Trichomes carry most of a strain's cannabinoids and terpenes, which is why kief is prized for aroma and flavor. It collects slowly over weeks of normal use.
Material & Teeth
Aircraft-grade aluminum lasts longest; diamond-cut teeth shred evenly. Avoid zinc alloy and acrylic — the teeth chip and the grind is inconsistent.
Sizing
2–2.5 inches suits most people for daily use. 1.5 inches travels well; 3 inches and up is built for sharing.
