A Jeff Melitz and Hondo collaboration — a fumed pineapple carb cap with UV-reactive glass, crushed opal and dichro.

Four techniques in one piece

This carries most of the difficult materials in the medium at once. Fuming introduces vaporized silver or gold for color without pigment. UV-reactive borosilicate fluoresces under blacklight and reads as ordinary glass in daylight. Crushed opal has to be encased under clear glass at a controlled pace or it cracks during annealing. Dichro carries a metallic oxide coating that overheating destroys outright.

Each has its own thermal tolerance. Combining all four in one small piece means working inside the narrowest window any of them allows.

Function

A carb cap controls airflow over a banger, letting you dab at lower temperature without losing vapor. At this tier it is functional art that happens to also be the correct tool.
